512 Pastel and Monotypes WORKSHOP

Pastel is an amazing medium all on its own. HOWEVER there are many exciting ways they can be used that are not necessarily “traditional!” My drawing and painting changed when I started monotype printmaking. I started drawing with the brayer, employing new additive and subtractive approaches to layering with pastel and other media. I realized I could create exciting, textural backgrounds with monotypes, then add subjects with pastel. PanPastel allowed a transparency that didn’t hide the monotype, and I could conceal areas below with the opacity of stick pastel. Layering PanPastel and stick pastel over water mixable oil, oil pastel, wax crayons, and cold wax, allowed me to “carve drawings.” I realized that “toothless” surfaces were GREAT for pastel, and began using surfaces I’d never considered before. I hope you will join me in this fun, two-day, fast-paced class that will fill your tool-kit with new techniques, and your imagination with creative  applications for printmaking, mixed media, and pastel!
