Financial Aid, Named Scholarships and Awards

South Shore Art Center is grateful to the generous donors who underwrite and support scholarships and awards for SSAC students.

Margaret Marshall Dillon Memorial Fund

Named in honor and memory of the first executive director of SSAC. Awarded to those looking to improve their creative abilities in visual art.

Marion Huse Memorial Fund

Created by Dr. Robert Barstow in memory of his wife, Marion Huse, used primarily for adult education.

Lois Weltman Memorial Fund

Funded by the Weltman family and friends in memory of Lois Weltman, long time SSAC patron, Arts Festival children’s tent sponsor, former board member. This fund supports elementary school children who are nominated by their art teacher or guardian.

Eleanor Hales Avakian Scholarship Fund

Established by Sally Hales Wheeler and Susan Hales Vrh, daughters of Eleanor Hales Avakian. Created to encourage students to participate in Sumi-e (Japanese brush painting) or Chinese brush painting.

Thomas Lucas Memorial Fund

Named for one of SSAC founders, Thomas Lucas, former Cohasset High School art teacher, in support of a deserving high school student.

Susan DeMichele Scholarship

Established in memory of long-time SSAC Gallery Artist Susan DeMichele by her family and friends. Award of $500 is distributed annually to a deserving high school senior pursing art in college, selected by scholarship committee.

Dorothy Palmer Painting Prize

The Painting Prize is a part of the Art Center’s annual juried awards during the Annual Arts Festival.  Generously funded by Dorothy Palmer, in recognition of outstanding original art work.
