420 Getting Real with Acrylics (WORKSHOP)

Students will learn a variety of ways to work with acrylic paint while creating a small still life painting. There will be some still life objects provided but you are welcome to bring your own. We will review how to create an underpainting and how and when to use the paint application techniques of impasto, scumbling, wet on wet methods and glazing. We will explore how to create textured paint strokes and fine details. The class will combine teacher demonstration with lots of hands on practice. The first week will emphasize observation of light on objects and tips for painting from observation or photographs; demonstration and practice to create an underpainting with acrylic paint; review of working with a limited color palette ; and independent work on still life paintings. The second week will include a demonstration and practice to create texture, realistic details and highlights, and independent work on still life paintings.
