329 Exploring Portraiture

Learn the basics or improve your study of portraiture, one of the major genres of the visual arts. Live models will sit for us in an Alla Prima (all in one sitting) three- hour session. We will start the course exploring the Loomis method of the structure of the portrait and how it is geometrically formed, to working on our first light and dark tonal the portrait with correct values of light and dark and the use of color in the subject. The use of photography as a sketch medium will also be discussed. Canvas prep and materials, initial drawing, blocking of color to final refinement will be the objective of creating your unique artistic product. Individual critiques and concept development will be an integral part of this experience as well as informative demonstrations to assist you in this explorative process. Includes model fee.
