“Learning to draw is really a matter of learning to see – which involves more than looking with the eye.” (Kimon Nikolaides). Drawing is a skill that can be developed through a series of exercises, classroom experiences, and sharpened perceptions. The emphasis will be on developing effective observational skills – to see like an artist – by observing the structural components of forms in space and finding an effective means to express them through graphic media. Experimentation with a variety of drawing tools and techniques will be explored along with considerations of composition and design. A range of weekly activities will be presented involving line, value, space, texture, and mark making. Master drawings will be used to illustrate drawing concepts and techniques. Instruction will be supportive and individualized.
