141 Pottery – Hand Building and Wheel Throwing (Grades 5-7)

Learn the basics of hand-building and wheel-throwing! Students will be taught how to prepare, center and work with lumps of clay to throw vessels of various shapes and sizes. When not on the wheel, students will discover and refine their hand-building skills – including coiling, slab building and pinch pots as they create functional and sculptural pieces. This format will allow flexibility in project conception and completion, with an emphasis on details, form and function. We’ll explore proper textural and glazing techniques as we finish our pieces in an array of underglazes and glazes.
