160 Chinese Art & Sculpture
(grades 6–9)

In anticipation of the summer Olympic games in Beijing, middle school artists will be introduced to popular Chinese art forms including Chinese brush painting flowers & birds, character writing/calligraphy, and sculpture. This 4-week class will be fun for students looking for specialized art instruction!

(grades 8–12)

This course is designed for middle and high school students who are serious about art and looking for individualized instruction. Through the painting medium, students will explore basic drawing elements of line and composition, learn color mixing, and work with both oils and acrylics. Weather permitting, classes will be held outdoors to explore plein air painting on/near the beautiful Cohasset Common and harbor. Students will be responsible for purchasing some materials.

Students looking to develop their artistic skills are encouraged to take the Art Studio II class on Thursday afternoons. In addition, Adult Courses are available to young adults ages 16 and older. 175 High School Portfolio
Intensive (grades 10–12) Danielle Mason Mihaley and
Chelsea McAlarney
Students who are seriously considering art school will benefit from this portfolio prep course. Over the weeklong course, students will sharpen their artistic skills, be introduced to new media and techniques, and produce quality portfolio pieces for application to an art school. Instruction will focus on both the technical and conceptual aspects of creating two-dimensional artwork. Students should be prepared for the workdays to simulate studio classes in art school.

Danielle Mason Mihaley is an art teacher in the Scituate Public Schools. Chelsea McAlarney is currently a student at Rhode Island School of Design concentrating in illustration. She attended pre-college at the Maryland Institute College of Art.

177 Digital Photography Workshop for Teens (Ages 12–16)
Cindy Vallino
This 4-session workshop will cover a broad range of photographic topics:

Camera operation basics

•Working with camera modes for
special effects
•Composition techniques
•Lighting tips for indoor (studio) and outdoor shooting
•Basics of digital photo processing
and editing using Photoshop
•Creative uses for digital photographs
•Class and “homework” photographic assignments will help students practice their new skills. All students should bring their cameras and camera
manuals to each class.
